Great Times

For nearly twenty-five years, I have shared my life with a special man. Our times together in Wisconsin at Camp, at Wheaton while he finished his Master’s degree, and our 16 months in Australia were sweet times in the early days of our marriage. From those three experiences, we have carried away multiple memories, inside jokes, many friendships and relationships, and the knowledge that we enjoy being together. As we began to have children, some of our together time lessened, but the early days where we built such a strong foundation continue to buoy us up through difficult times.

  • Installing and Using an Extinguisher

Installing a small powder fire extinguisher should come along with the knowledge of how to use it. Have you recently furnished your house? Or have you just opened a brand new store to start your business? Whatever the case may be, but you must have taken full care of comfort and style and decorated it to the best with different accessories. BUT, have you checked it for safety? Most of the people get so much involved in the look of things that they forget to do anything to keep safe what they have created.

  • 12 Days Away

Christmas is coming in only twelve days and I am looking forward to the family time we will have on Christmas Eve. For the first time this year, we will be without my father, and that will inject an element of sadness into the holiday, but we have such sweet memories of holidays past with him, that there will also be joy. Outside of the family gathering, I most look forward to the Awaited Christmas program at Crossroads Church. I have heard some of the music ahead of time and I know that Crossroads will put on a wonderful show.

When I have some free time, I love to read. Having participated in the National Novel Writing Month project this November, I learned that one of the best things a writer can do is to read other writers. Novels have always been one of the main ways I relax, and so I have at least one novel in progress all the time. When I am not able to sit and read, I find it very satisfying to work on organizing my home and work space. My most recent project is a book database where I am creating my own home library.

  • Homeschooling

Homeschooling my children means several trips to Office Max throughout the year. Walking up and down the aisles is always part of the trip, no matter if I know exactly for what I am shopping. Seeing all the pens and pencils, fresh binders, sets of sharpies, post-it notes in all colors and shapes, and reams and reams of clean paper speaks to me of all the possibilities represented in the store. I am full of creative thoughts and desire to write and draw and color. Office Max offers me all the supplies I need to do these things, and more.

  • Snow Fall

Watching the snow falling at night in the winter is one of my favorite activities in the cold, dark months of December, January and February. I used to turn on the outside floodlight at night and watch the flakes fall gently to the ground. There is something very magical about waking up to a whitened world; so quiet, so clean, so fresh, so bright. On days where I experience cold and damp without the balancing out of the snow, I long for spring and remember that it will be coming sooner than I think and I am at peace.

  • Electric Bill

I awoke this morning thinking about the electric bill. I remembered that it was going to be due in a few days and I wondered if I could encourage my family to use less electricity. I had had a dream that left some residual grouchiness in my head when I awoke, so I spent some time writing a few pages of thoughts before I got into my day. I went ahead and took my shower, but I experimented with leaving the exhaust fan off and opening the window instead. I was pleased with the outcome and determined to share the idea with my family.

    The Second Decade (album)
    Image via Wikipedia

I turn 30 in 2010, and have decided that I’m done with all of people’s “b.s.”  I’m not chasing people anymore.  Either you are my friend or you’re not.  I won’t ask you to hang out all the time just to have you blow me off.  I also think that since it’s a new decade of my life, it’s time for some changes.  I want to move to another city.  I want to try a new job, a new place, and new friends.  I think there’s more out there than what I’ve been living.  I’ve also been cleaning my apartment and getting rid of all my junk, so I am ready to move.  Wish me luck in my new life decade!

  • I “Heart” New York

I live in Western New York.  There is a lot more there than people think.  We are only about two hours away from Toronto.  An hour south of us there are amazing ski resorts.  Since we are right on the Lake, we have a lot of beaches.  In the fall, the trees changing color is gorgeous.  There are a lot of places to hike or have picnics for the day.  Also, my city has beautiful architecture.  The people in my city are very friendly and helpful, especially when it snows.  You can always count on your neighbor helping you out if you are stuck or if you need someone to snow blow your driveway.
